Black Girls Code provides a culturally relevant and supportive environment where Black girls can learn computer science and coding principles with mentorship from women they can see themselves becoming.
Black Girls Code Summer Camp offers an immersive, hands-on experience in game design, artificial intelligence (AI), and coding for girls aged 10-17. Through an exclusive partnership with Endless Access, a youth-focused game-making studio, campers delve into the world of professional game development. They learn to design their own game assets, including sound effects, narrative elements, skill trees, and gameplay loops, using industry-standard tools. The curriculum emphasizes foundational skills in game development and AI, fostering ethical decision-making and creativity in technological innovation. Campers engage in daily coding instruction led by Black Girls Code-trained instructors, culminating in a capstone project where they showcase their learning. The program also includes tailored industry speaker sessions highlighting careers in AI, coding, gaming, and broader STEAM fields, as well as wellness activities and a leadership development curriculum in partnership with Lean In Girls. Some virtual camps focus on Roblox development, teaching participants to build their own Roblox worlds from scratch using Lua coding.
A typical day includes arrival and breakfast, an icebreaker activity, two hands-on coding sessions, lunch and social time, a guest speaker or mentor session, physical activity, and a daily survey and wrap-up.
This camp is best for Black girls aged 10-17 who are eager to strengthen their math confidence while learning to code and explore the safe use of AI, and who want to build confidence and connect with a powerful community.
